David Bazan has spent thirty years writing some of indie rock's most quietly devastating records — from It's Hard to Find a Friend through Control and Achilles Heel to the hometown trilogy (Phoenix, Havasu, Santa Cruz), three albums that read like a map of where a person comes from and what that keeps costing. His shows trade stage distance for something closer to a conversation: small room, close chairs, every lyric audible.
